Two-Man Giant Squid • Two-Man Giant Squid
Angry punk disco sure is exciting, and this incongruously-named band is a master of the craft, with sizzling disco grooves and a pumping bass anchoring guitar shards and a vocal delivery that can border on the distraught. Put it on and cut a rug.

Vundabar • Surgery and Pleasure
These Boston kids with a New York attitude don't have time for your little dance on the street, you better keep your eyes on where you're going. It's all an act, because under the gritty glitter and trash talk is a heart that beats warm and true.

Mixtape 278 • Are You Mine?
It's another go around for Kim Deal, who remains as rawly melodic as ever.

The Ice Of Boston
A very special New Year’s Eve edition, distinguished by the fact it makes absolutely no attempt to be any different from most other alternate Tuesday nights! Mixtape 239 • Double Negative
Omni unites their sound with the thinnest of guitar strings and rhythms of utmost precision.

Run Run Run
It was a globe-spanning show, with listeners checking in from the Grand Valley, the Florida swamps, and as far as Japan, where it was already Wednesday lunchtime. Meanwhile, The Libertines are up to their old antics again, at least the ones where they sound like a recently unfrozen cadre of British Invasion troglodytes. Also fun: playing a track called “We Will Not Apologize” and following that up with “Stop Apologizing”. Sounds about right.

Mixtape 217 • Have you tried meditation?
Pacing keeps it steady with a forward approach and some decent advice.

Right Back To It
Things started out normally, with a cover and an excellent new single from Waxahatchee, but took a turn for the unexpected when the highly-anticipated Cat Empire set went missing. Was it skipped over on the player accidentally? Had I forgotten to make a copy to bring to the station? Could I download it from the backup at home? After a couple of sets of troubleshooting, it turned out I had named the file incorrectly. These are the hazards you encounter as a live-in-the-studio DJ, kids.

Mixtape 196 • Bite My Tongue
When I hear the sounds of Islands, I am reminded of sparkling diamonds and shattered glass.
